NEW YORK, NEW YORK —

The Columbia University Men’s Hockey team announced two new additions to the program last week.

A pair of California natives are headed to the Big Apple: Dennis Franklin (Forward, Taft School), and Weston Goodman (Defenseman, USPHL)

Franklin, an 18 year old left shot Forward from Oakland, California, joins the Lions from Taft School. The college preparatory school in Watertown, Connecticut has generated notable professional hockey talent in Max Paccioretty and Jaime Sifers. Franklin is coming off a campaign in which he posted 11 points in 22 games in the USHS Preparatory league. After speaking with Captain Andrew Dunn last week, he informed the media that he “can’t wait” to see the potential scoring depth that Franklin can provide up front. Dunn expects Franklin to frequently be pencilled in at Left Wing.

Dennis Franklin (F)

Goodman, the 20 year old defender from San Jose, California, joins the Lions coming off a season in which he produced 10 points in a total of 40 games split between the Northern Cyclones and the South Shore Kings of the USPHL. The right handed shooting defender brings some much needed shutdown capability to a Columbia Lions team that allowed 7 goals or more in 9 of their 16 games last season. Captain Dunn added that the services of Goodman could be “critical” to the improvement of the team for the 2019/2020 season.

With plenty of time remaining until the season starts in September, look for the team to continue to speak and negotiate with any potential additions to the program.

Weston Goodman (D)

The Lions went 4-11-1 last season, as Andrew Dunn led the way in Forward scoring and Dean Foskett led in Defenseman scoring.
